WACKER HOTEL
Opal Glass and Chicago Glass Works worked together to recreate glass
wall sconces for the Wacker Hotel. Sharon’s mold making
expertise combined with Eric’s superb glassblowing skills
were able to reproduce an upgraded version of the original Art Deco
lighting fixtures. Only one glass original existed and it had been the
cheaper pressed clear glass of the era, as opposed to hand-blown.
As the whole lobby was being redecorated in a new color theme, Eric
created 7 beautiful swirled ruby red sconces that were much more
dramatic than the originals but retained the same shape, as they were
mold blown into the refractory molds Sharon created. By avoiding a
costly metal mold this project was able to come in under budget.
